Instrusafe didn’t start as just another instrument tray — it was born out of a real clinical need recognized by frontline healthcare professionals. In 1985, an ENT operating room nurse identified a critical challenge: the delicate and expensive surgical instruments used in ENT and plastic surgery were being damaged or poorly protected during decontamination, transportation, sterilization, and reprocessing. Traditional baskets and trays of the time weren’t designed to protect such intricate instrumentation, leading to breakage, costly repairs, and inefficiencies.
Seeing this gap, Instrusafe was developed — not in a lab, but in response to a problem raised by a seasoned clinician who understood the consequences of instrument damage firsthand. This early collaboration between healthcare professionals and product developers set a tone that still defines Instrusafe today: listen to clinical teams, solve real problems, and protect the tools that help deliver patient care. Designed and manufactured by Summit Medical, an Innovia Medical company, Instrusafe products are engineered to deliver lasting performance, optimal instrument protection, and enhanced patient safety throughout the instrument use cycle — from decontamination to the operating room and back.
